Question of the Day
Besides offering good money and miles, what is the best selling point for recruiting new drivers?
• A big, fat sign-on bonus • Good equipment and attractive running lanes • Lifestyle issues: Decent home time, flexible work schedule • Financially sound, caring company to drive for/contract with
In our last issue, we asked the following question:
Are aging baby boomers (people over 50) who have been laid off or are looking for a career change good candidates to drive over-the-road?
Yes. Baby boomers tend to have the qualities the industry is looking for in drivers: well-developed judgment skills, strong work ethic and a solid sense of responsibility. 100 percent
No . After spending their entire adult life working 9-to-5 in an office or factory environment, I just don't see them surviving too long being on the road on their own every day. 0 percent
Note: Inside Truckingpolls are surveys of those who choose to participate and are therefore not valid statistical samples. Is there a question regarding driver recruitment and retention you would like to ask the trucking industry? Send suggestions to: phorner@otrprotrucker.com |
