Deadline Nears for TCA Driver-of-the-Year Nominations

The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) announce that its annual Company Equipment Driver of the Year contest will be enhanced this year by the addition of a spectacular new prize for the first-place winner: a Dodge Ram truck powered with a Cummins engine.

TCA launched its 2008 contest on Aug. 21 and will accept nominations until Sept. 12. Motor carriers may nominate up to five company drivers. If a driver makes it to finalist status, the company will need to fill out a more detailed final application that includes letters of reference, a short essay from the driver, lists of community and trucking industry involvement, etc. The final application will be due Oct. 31.

To be considered for the company equipment contest, drivers must have been employed by and driving for the nominating motor carrier for at least three years. Applicants must have at least one million consecutive, accident-free miles and will be judged on performance record, ability to operate in a safe manner on the public highways, efforts to enhance the public image of the trucking industry and positive contributions to the community.

Winners will be announced at the Annual Banquet during TCA’s Annual Convention, March 8-11, 2009, at the Gaylord Palms Resort, Orlando, FL.

In addition to the Company Equipment Driver of the Year contest, TCA also sponsors an equivalent contest for owner-operators, with the same deadlines. For a complete listing of contest rules and application information, visit www.truckload.org/winatruck.
